Thanks Deathstalker, if you read my submission carefully, you'll notice that the card already works fine with Jaunty.
The point I was trying to make is that a trivial hardware change forced me abandon my LTS (8.04 Hardy) before the arrival of the next LTS (10.04 Lucid). An LTS shall be an LTS because you can stay with it until the next LTS, if you wish to.
