Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-180-kernel-source
Last week my Nvidia Geforce 6200GT broke down and i went out and bought an Nvidia 9400GT pci-e. I tried my best and could not make it work with either the proprietary or the free drivers (not even 3rd party drivers). X did not recognize the card, started up with error, and when started up, the proprietary drivers did not appear in System > Administration > Hardware drivers. Best results were achieved with VESA driver. The final solution was to abandon Hardy and upgrade to Intrepid > Jaunty. With Jaunty, the nvidia-180 driver works quite fine. On a not so personal note, I really wanted to stick with Hardy and I am sorry I couldn't make it until the next LTS. Just because I bought a (not so) new piece of hardware. And not any hardware but an Nvidia which is known to be well supported on Linux. ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- No fully functional driver for Nvidia 9400 on Hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/487401 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
