Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg
When I run Audacity and I record voice from analog line input on sound card Xorg eats 100% CPU, even if Audacity is minimized. I've experienced the same problem with some other applications, too and my friends got this problem in Karmic installer (Ubiquity) on Radeon 9000, 9100 and 9200 (R2xx). I use Radeon 9600 which is RV350, and I've been upgrading from 9.04 and couldn't test the installer. All the tests where done with Kubuntu (I don't know anyone near me using Gnome). # top top - 19:30:18 up 1:28, 4 users, load average: 0.83, 0.94, 1.11 Tasks: 195 total, 2 running, 193 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie Cpu(s): 6.4%us, 2.2%sy, 46.1%ni, 45.1%id, 0.0%wa, 0.1%hi, 0.1%si, 0.0%st Mem: 2061600k total, 2006484k used, 55116k free, 75892k buffers Swap: 2933168k total, 4296k used, 2928872k free, 1122556k cached PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 1658 root 35 15 768m 94m 6024 R 95 4.7 55:55.94 Xorg 3684 xeros 15 -5 83580 32m 18m S 11 1.6 5:50.44 audacity 3582 xeros 20 0 83900 25m 18m S 1 1.3 0:43.32 psi 3518 xeros 20 0 237m 25m 18m S 1 1.3 0:56.99 kwin 3541 xeros 20 0 343m 47m 27m S 1 2.3 0:35.09 plasma-desktop 3577 xeros 20 0 134m 30m 18m S 1 1.5 0:09.56 yakuake 4 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.28 ksoftirqd/0 2724 tv 20 0 260m 35m 21m S 0 1.8 0:08.90 plasma-desktop 3616 xeros 20 0 81648 13m 9692 S 0 0.7 0:00.95 klipper 14683 root 20 0 2468 1232 896 R 0 0.1 0:00.06 top 1 root 20 0 2592 1432 1120 S 0 0.1 0:01.21 init 2 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 kthreadd 3 root RT -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.01 migration/0 5 root RT -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 watchdog/0 6 root RT -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.02 migration/1 7 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.10 ksoftirqd/1 8 root RT -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 watchdog/1 9 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.10 events/0 10 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 events/1 11 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 cpuset 12 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 khelper 13 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 netns 14 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 async/mgr 15 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 kintegrityd/0 16 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 kintegrityd/1 17 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.36 kblockd/0 18 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 kblockd/1 19 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 kacpid 20 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 kacpi_notify 21 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 kacpi_hotplug 22 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.34 ata/0 23 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.16 ata/1 24 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 ata_aux 25 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 ksuspend_usbd 26 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 khubd 27 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 kseriod 28 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 kmmcd 29 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 bluetooth 30 root 20 0 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 khungtaskd 31 root 20 0 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.21 pdflush 32 root 20 0 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.21 pdflush 33 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:02.06 kswapd0 34 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 aio/0 35 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 aio/1 36 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 ecryptfs-kthrea 37 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 crypto/0 38 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 crypto/1 42 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.75 scsi_eh_0 43 root 15 -5 0 0 0 S 0 0.0 0:00.00 scsi_eh_1 (I've set Xorg to 15 nice priority but at 0 it's the same as here) # uname -a Linux Wiolusia 2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 16 14:04:26 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux My system is two user multiseat with two graphic cards but I've tested only the Radeon 9600 card here.
