I tried upgrading to Karmic-RC overnight and completed the upgrade this morning. Same hardware as originally posted, but nvidia driver updated to versions 185, and obviously kernel was updated as well. After less than 3 hours uptime, my machine crashed (black screen) with Xorg consuming 100% of CPU. I had top running on an ssh session from another computer at the time, and have attached the output here. I'll try again next week after Karmic is officially released ...
