I agree the apps in x11-apps don't appear to be useful anymore. But the 'xorg' package itself is only a metapackage and pulling in other packages is what metapackages do. It gives you a traditional X11 environment so from that perspective, having 'xorg' install 'x11-apps' makes a lot of sense.
I suggest the real bug should be "why are we installing package 'xorg'?". If you want then we can reword this bug accordingly. ** No longer affects: x11-apps (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Wishlist ** Summary changed: - xorg metapackage requires x11-apps + xorg metapackage depends on x11-apps needlessly ** Summary changed: - xorg metapackage depends on x11-apps needlessly + xorg metapackage depends on x11-apps ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Opinion ** Summary changed: - xorg metapackage depends on x11-apps + xorg metapackage depends on x11-apps and xorg-docs-core -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to x11-apps in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956126 Title: xorg metapackage depends on x11-apps and xorg-docs-core To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1956126/+subscriptions _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
