This was most likely the same problem as bug 454029, which was fixed
with:
xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2~xup~3) jaunty; urgency=low
* Reinstate 01_gen_pci_ids.diff for jaunty xserver (LP: #454029)
and ship the pci ids file
