This seems the same problem of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1850969 no problem starting apps from the icons on the dock but immediate hang clicking an icon on the desktop. I still see the problem with the ISO: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Alpha amd64 (20191105)
