This is claimed to be a kernel issue rather than an issue with the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package. As of kernel 4.7 the issue isn't quite resolved yet. The issue is also occurring on Dell model 7370. The touchpad shows up as ↳ ImPS/2 BYD TouchPad id=12 [slave pointer (2)].
