Perhaps there is a misunderstand here: the PC was already updated to the last available BIOS version. If there is a but in the BIOS, than that bug is not going away. BTW I have a friend of mine with a laptop with AMD CPU and more or less the same NVidia card that had similar problems resolved in the same manner: installing the 12.04 generic kernel.
