Thank you Gunnar for the explanation. Indeed, adding "export LC_CTYPE=pt_BR.UTF-8" to "~/.profile" worked. It seems that the combination of sudo locale-gen pt_BR.UTF-8 and that works nicely and that it is a nice workaround.
I don't understand yet exactly how this can become a defintive solution.
