You have been subscribed to a public bug: After installing fglrx or fglrx-updates Driver, rebooting (everytime since) loading spashscreen is visable, with the dialog for decryption passphrase; however entering passphrase followed by return/enter key has no effect.
My current workaround is to press reset key, then on next loading screen select the current linux kernal with recovery mode option, followed by resume boot. This brings up the decryption passphrase dialog in terminal, and Ubuntu 14.10 loads completely thereafter.
