Will the above workarounds allow me to use my external monitor again? My monitor is connected via VGA. I had the same symptoms as the OP, and I tried the suggestions above and I can now log in but I can no longer detect my external monitor. In what order should I: purge Nvidia, purge Nvidia-prime/Nvidia-settings, install the Ubuntu-commons/Nvidia-commons .deb files, re-install Nvidia-prime, re-install Nvidia drivers?
I am using Ubuntu 14.04 with a ThinkPad W520, and Nvidia Prime. I'm not sure if this is the right location for my question, but I have a post [here](http://askubuntu.com/questions/521354/multiple-monitors-and- nvidia-optimus-not-working-after-apt-get-update). Any suggestions are welcome. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304-updates in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1365695 Title: No longer able to use GUI after update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304-updates/+bug/1365695/+subscriptions _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
