I had the very same probem on a Toshiba Satellite L50-B-166 that has the same GPU.
I've installed the beta driver as suggested in #3 and the problem seems to be fixed now (just suspended and resumed successfully). Note that to install that driver I needed to switch to the AMD adapter via amdcccle and reboot otherwise the installer believed no supported GPU were present.
