My experience in a nutshell (using Kubuntu): - I have an old machine with a GeForce FX 5200, which was working great with natty and the proprietary nvidia-173 driver, manually installed - I don't care about 3D and effects, but watching movies with nouveau I had some annoying flickering horizontal lines - after upgrading to precise I restored nouveau as the proprietary driver compalined about a missing file in /lib - installing nvidia-173 (173.14.39-0ubuntu0.0.1) using Applications -> System -> Additional Drivers (Jockey) solved the issue for me.
In short, you can use GeForce FX 5200 with nvidia-173 in Kubuntu Precise Thanks to all that contributed! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/948053 Title: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/948053/+subscriptions _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
