Personally, I can live fine with the workarounds described in the Freedesktop.org bug report until Trusty is released. I can't speak for others, but as you've noticed there doesn't seem to have been a lot of activity surrounding this bug. For me, it would be OK to close this bug as fixed in Trusty.
