I had this too updating today. I assume Kovács is updating from xorg- edgers.
I can solve the issue by downgrading the mesa libs to the earlier packages on the repository. Running the following packages I don't have missing non subpixel smoothing fonts: libgl1-mesa-dri 7.6.0+git20090908.e589a37f-0ubuntu0tormod~jaunty libgl1-mesa-glx 7.6.0+git20090908.e589a37f-0ubuntu0tormod~jaunty libglu1-mesa 7.6.0+git20090908.e589a37f-0ubuntu0tormod~jaunty Using version of those packages 7.7.0~git20090910.18882f4d- 0ubuntu0tormod~jaunty I have missing fonts. I tried revert the xserver intel driver and the issue still occurred so I'd assume it is caused by the mesa libs.
