I need more information about the problem.

1) If you're using Jaunty, can you install the kernel in the "-proposed"
repository, reboot and follow step 3

2) If you're using Karmic, please follow step 3

3) Type:
xinput list --short

and find the name of your touchpad.

then type:
xinput list-props $YOUR_TOUCHPAD

(replace $YOUR_TOUCHPAD with the name of your touchpad in quotation
marks)

and attach the output of the command
