My initial prognosis of not working on UEFI is incorrect. I think it is the upgrade to 13.10 or 13.04. My laptop sometimes has this same problem and UEFI is not enabled on it. This is a very bad intermittent bug. My computer cannot start up. I honestly do not understand why it has been about a month and the bug has not even been given any priority. At one point I had to reboot 20 times, rebooted into safe mode, rebooted again, and it magically worked. Not being able to intermittently use a computer seems to be about as serious a bug as you can get without having something eat your hard drives or corrupt your file system. If you need help fixing this bug, please let me know.
