I upgraded to Ubuntu 13.04, and I am now using Kernel version
3.10.0-031000-generic with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.21.6-0ubuntu4.
I am using the kernel options:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="enable_mtrr_cleanup mtrr_spare_reg_nr=1 mtrr_gran_size=32M
mtrr_chunk_size=32M i8042.noloop"

The first time since months my system feels more stable. I still have freezes,
but much less frequently than before.
I know that this is a very subjective observation, but for me it is a small
progress....
