I have reported the bug to the synaptic driver (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64103) and Peter Hutterer replied: "Not sure how to fix this without some larger rework in the smoothing code. Play around with the noise cancellation though, maybe you can find a setting that makes it bearable:
