The problem is this laptop uses optimus and the digital output connectors are only physically hooked up to the nvidia gpu while your internal display runs off of the intel gpu which is a combination that is not supported in linux yet. You may be able to force the system to only use the nvidia in the bios on your machine, a lot of systems like this have that option. Alternately you may be able to force the nvidia to be used by adding acpi_osi="!Windows 2009" to your kernel command line, that will force it into windows XP compatibility mode where optimus doesn't work.
