Same problem here, freezes were infrequent on 12.04, only occasional. Since some updates were installed on 14-01-2013, freezes happen at least once a day to my work PC, both when idle and loaded.
Symptoms that vary: - Black screen (latest) OR oops dump screen OR corrupt memory graphics on entire screen - Stack trace seems to vary Symptoms always common: - Always requires holding down power button. - Nothing functions (caps lock, no network activity) Suspect GPU freeze / graphics driver. I have experienced this same problem on two identical, side-by-side Ubuntu 12.04 machines, though one has become worse than the other (the one used the most). HW: 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS880 [Radeon HD 4200] I downgraded to a .35 kernel this week to see if the latest kernel upgrade e.g. a proposed update was the cause, but it has happened again since the downgrade. I am going to try the proprietary Radeon driver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
