Hi, I have the same bug (complete freeze, no mouse & no keyboard after a few seconds, no ssh, automatic reboot sometimes 2 or 3 minutes later) and here are some details which might help. First my configuration (it's a desktop computer):
Processor: i3 Board: Asus P7P55D Graphics: Nvidia GT940 Ram: 6GB Sound: external card Audio Kontrol There is a dual boot with windows on two different HD. I tried to install one after another Linux Mint, Ubuntu 12.10 and Ubuntu Studio (for several different reasons), and here are some remarks about all this: - Things are much worse with Mint (because of cinnamon? Or because of the version of the kernel? gnome-shell under Mint was better at least). Even the live Usb froze several times. - Things are worse with gnome shell than with xfce or gnome 2. - I am now under Ubuntu 12.10 again, with Unity, and I discovered that JACK was one of the major problem (I tried to install Ardour & Co). Especially, during the installation of Jack when the system asks if you want to "enable the real time" (can't remember the exact message), choosing 'yes' is a really a bad idea, it can make the system freeze instantly. Now that I have said "no", things are much better overall. - Problems are arising usually when something is involved with the sound, with the graphics, or with the disks (partition of the disk, importing a big folder in rhythmbox...) Something seems wrong with drivers anyway... I'll try to use the internal sound card instead, and perform other tests with cinnamon and gnome-shell to see, but the major problem is that there is not a standard procedure to make the system freeze, as other people pointed out. I hope it helped, G On Thu, 01 Nov 2012 01:16:49 -0000 Christopher James Leaf <chrisj.l...@gmail.com> wrote: > It seems that an upgrade to 12.10 worked for me, because it >has the new > kernel 3.5.
