After installing that older 12.4 driver (as I mentioned in the above comment) I opened the AMD control panel (before rebooting. If I reboot, i'll loose unity) and it gave me an error saying there's no AMD graphic driver installed. (But note that it worked in Ubuntu 12.04) Attached a screenshot of the error.
