I have a similar problem with my setup: Dell D620 Dell port replicator Dell 2100FP monitor (1600x1200 native) at home Dell 24" monitor at work Ubuntu 8.10
Whenever I want to switch monitors, I have to restart Ubuntu. If I work on the laptop screen, suspend, dock, then resume, it never detects the big monitor. It keeps using the laptop screen. To make matters worse, the big monitor's native resolution isn't available in the Screen Resolution applet.
