So I used to have complete system freezes as well. I used to think it was tied to video card drivers, but then after several complete reinstalls of Ubuntu 12.04 I found the cause of the problem, at least for me.
I run a 64 bit AMD (1.6 dual core) laptop with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 dual booting. I have the 200mb partition, a part for win7, a part for linux, and then a part for everything else. I have 3 gigs of ram, if it matters. I thought it was coincidence at first, but then after several tests I've concluded that Win7 system resume feature is the cause of the problem. Ubuntu would freeze, completely, right after login or at the login screen, or even a few minutes later, until I've completely logged out of and shut down Win7. Hope that helps, but I dont think everyone with this problem is dual booting, or has a setup like mine. Also, Grub2 boots before MBR, if that makes a difference. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
