I have the same problem: ubuntu 12.04 (upgraded because I had the problem in 11.10 suddenly. It worked for many months without problem.) G86, Quadro NVS 290 AMD64 3.2.0-26-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP using dual monitors
went through this thread and others and tried: 1- Adding the following which made it worse, so I removed it. Option "UseEvents" "False" In the "Device" section of my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file . 2- Added ppa and switched to 302.17 from xorg-edgers. type of messages I get vary: [ 4144.777864] NVRM: Xid (0000:02:00): 6, PE0001 [ 4825.515038] NVRM: Xid (0000:02:00): 6, PE0001 or [ 368.129632] NVRM: GPU at 0000:02:00.0 has fallen off the bus.
