Just to clarify, When my desktop hangs, The display completely freezes. I've set the key-binding Ctrl+Shift+Esc to unity--replace, since I have to do that very often. It has become a big trouble.
With precise-proposed enabled, I had problems more often, and had to do a clean install. And now, I can not open Libre office, Desktop hangs everytime I open any file, or the program directly, so the severity increased. And most of the time, when I create or delete any file from within terminal or nautilus, The display freezes. Most of the time, the return code of unity --replace is 137, and I re- run the command to get things working. But at times, the return code is 1,when running unity --replace wont help. It says: unity-panel-service not running. I'm behind a firewall and a proxy server due to which apport-collect and ubuntu-bug do not directly work. Can I do an apport-cli and upload the crash file? Allthe machines I access to suffer with the same problem.
