Michael:

To clarify, it is the 3.2.0-23-lowlatency kernel that doesn't crash.
The generic kernel does.

The exact procedure is to go into Synaptic Package Manager (install it
if you don't have it), search for all instances of 3.2.0-25 and have it
removed. The next thing to do is to search for the 3.2.0-23 lowlatency
kernel, taking care to avoid the PAE kernel unless you're running a 64
bit system., and install:

linux-headers-3.2.0-23
linux-headers-3.2.0-23-lowlatency
linux-image-3.2.0-23-lowlatency

You will definitely need to restart after that. After you restart,
check the 'System' tab on your System Monitor. If everything went well,
it should say this: "Kernel Linux 3.2.0-23-lowlatency".

It is absolutely imperative that I stress that it is ONLY THE LOW
LATENCY KERNEL that hasn't crashed on me. So take care to only install
the low latency kernel and not the generic kernel.
