I would like to add something for those having issues with this, as I was having. First: nouveau turned possible to use unity 3d. Now, folliwing the blog http://ramblingsofaswtester.com/?p=41 I was able to set my nvidia to work properly, using bumblebee. This maybe the case for only some cards, but might help someone.
