I just updated to latest stable kernel release (3.2.0-24.38) and I still have the problem. I then started back on oneiric kernel (3.0.0-19.33) and I did not have the problem anymore.
On recent kernel, every time I close/open the laptop lid, X is frozen. I need to reboot or restart lightdm from console. I'm running precise on an HP 6730b with an "Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)" which is a GM45.
