I'm on Ubuntu 11.10 and my issues started when I rebooted my server the
screen that appeared on my tv screen was larger than the tv size itself,
so I manually had to resize the picture to fit the screen. I downloaded
the newest version of the Nvidia drivers. Looked on the web and found
some pages that suggested that I remove the nvidia drivers and then
restart the server and reinstall the drivers but now I keep gettihing
the following from the kern.log file.

NVRM: API mismatch: the client has the version 295.40, but
NVRM: this kernel module has the version 295.33. Please
NVRM: make sure that this kernel module and all NVIDIA driver
NVRM: components have the same version.
init: lightdm main process (1105) terminated with status 1

I found the help page and saw that someone mentioned removing the same
as I did before, so I tried it and it still did not work.

Now I am stuck and do not know where to turn.

Is there no way in which to update the kernel to match the version I am
trying to install because I have found a download nvidia-current-
dev_295.40-0ubuntu1~oneiric~xup1_i386.deb but I cannot find the download
nvidia-current-dev_295.33-0ubuntu1~oneiric~xup1_i386.deb. The first
package does not seem to be backwards compatibale with the second.

Please help me!!

Thanks
Lawrence
