It turns out that my problem was happening because of the presence of oem-config and ubiquity. These should have been removed at the end of installation, but they weren't. These were being started when X started, which was perhaps causing the TTY to be stolen (by bterm).
In any case, maybe this bug is invalid. I figured I would comment on this so that other people facing this problem would know the reason why. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/922653 Title: Xorg uses 100% CPU on first login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/922653/+subscriptions _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
