In a fresh install of Oneiric, I had a dual screen setup with 3D capability adequate for compiz effects. Then I tried fglrx but had issues with the dual monitor setup and setting resolutions with amdcccle so I uninstalled fglrx.
However, it seems that there are some after effects of having had fglrx installed which mean some packages need to be reinstalled.
