It would appear that the nv driver has been removed from Ubuntu 11.10.
The immediate work around here would be to use the nouveau driver
instead.

I would like to request, perhaps it should be a bug of its own, that we
bring the nv driver back. When putting together a multi-monitor setup
beyond 2 monitors, nothing else can take it's place. Well, not that
I've seen.

The nvidia or nouveau drivers can be coerced into running 3 monitors,
but is significantly slower than mixing the nvidia with the nv driver in
the xorg.conf. I realize this is a very special case, but we're only
talking about a < 200k driver file here.

Thankfully, I had a laptop still running 11.04 that I was able to copy
the nv driver on over to my 11.10 desktop. Without that file, my 3
monitor setup was even slow in Fluxbox.
