Hm.  Under what circumstances will malloc() segfault?  This pretty much
requires that we've got memory corruption, which means that the
stacktrace isn't going to be very helpful.

I'm curious about the EQ overflow spewed at the end of your initial
Xorg.0.log.  Particularly since it seems that you've got a frame doing
free and another doing malloc.  This *might* be a signal-safety issue?
