Public bug reported: Testing Oneiric Alpha 3 on an inspiron 1122 with an ATI chipset. using the OSS driver included in Ubuntu works until you try using an external monitor. With either external VGA or HDMI out, the external monitor displays just a bunch of corruption, nothing discernible at all, and worse, the primary display (onboard panel) gets a large Bar of Corruption across the top of the desktop just below the panel.
I also tried using the proprietary driver, but that made things even worse. With the proprietary driver, the entire system was unusable. I'm opening a separate bug on that issue. For this bug, external video is completely unusable.
