Public bug reported: I installed Ubuntu 11.04 on an older Acer laptop yesterday, with the Intel GMA 950 graphics chip. When I booted from the live media it was mainly fine, except it insisted the screen was 4:3. No matter, that was fixed after installed and running some updates, so now it displays the correct resolution of 1280x800.
However, after the second reboot after installing all updates (I had some fw-issues with a b43xx-card) the screen was all teared up: Screenshot here: http://imgbin.org/index.php?page=image&id=4496 The desktop was working and everything was clickable, so I logged out and back in, and then it was fine. So I thought "ah, maybe it's something related to auto-login in GDM", but when I disabled auto-login and rebooted, the screen just sat there displaying the desktop background, no login window appeared. I switched to console and logged in from there, and when I switched back to X the login window had appeared. Some more rebooting and testing confirmed that I had to login from console for it to appear. When I logged in, however, the desktop was garbage as before. So I logged out, back in, and it was fine. During one shutdown before reboot I noticed something about "Crash report [somethingsomething] FAILED" - So I'm wondering if the gfx-card driver crashes on shutdown, and -something- is messed up and not purged before I log in and back out again. I do not have the computer here now so I can't apply the logs, but if you need them just say so and I'll get the uploaded asap. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/811499 Title: Malfunction on boot?
