OK, back on the laptop again after a hard reboot. During the session hang, there was no response from keyboard or mouse clicks, although the mouse cursor was moving, and X applications were responding. For example I managed to trigger a save operation in the Gedit window I had open by using Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get a new terminal, then running the following to trigger a keystroke to be sent to the window...
DISPLAY=":0" xdotool key --window `DISPLAY=":0" xdotool search --onlyvisible --name "gedit"` "ctrl+s"; I'm deliberately using a kernel from LP-PPA-kernel-ppa/natty to test for upcoming problems for Xorg with proposed kernels, so this may be worth noting. I'll use whatever kernel PPA you think is most useful for this testing from now on, if that's not the right way to go. After the reboot, I noted there's a new release of Xorg appeared in the last day or so in natty-updates, so I'm upgrading to that and we'll see how we go. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/803542 Title: xorg session hang To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/803542/+subscriptions _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
