I thank you also. This worked for me on Ubuntu 10.10. I have Gigabyte 880GA-UD3H motherboard, AMD Phenom II X2 555 CPU, and XFX GeForce GT240 video card. I had struggled for days trying to get my rebuilt system to work and had given up and was using onboard graphics only. Then I found this easy fix on page 4 of this document. This information should be noted on the Ubuntu Community Documentation Manual for Nvidia.
