Unity isn't slow just on this particular laptop, but in every system that's using an AMD IGP like HD3200 or HD4200. I have a Radeon HD4200 and can confirm every single application runs much slower than with classic Ubuntu. The exception are fullscreen 3D applications like games which run as expected.
