The are both Kubuntu Natty using the Intel driver. I could boot the 64-bit 945G with a 32-bit USB stick and see if that helps.
And I could switch temporarily to a lower resolution, but not 1024x600 I guess. Actually the 64-bit machine has only 2GB of RAM not 4. I'll report back with the results.
