This happened to me for the first time a few minutes ago. I was on Firefox, I just opened a new tab. Suddenly the screen went black, I saw a couple of words/letters, and then I was back on the login screen.
I am running a clean install of Ubuntu 11.04 x86 on a ThinkPad T400.
