However, now I want to say that this issue is not nvidia-specific. I have the same problem also on a notebook with an Intel 945GM chipset. If I log into Unity environment, the toggle mode of window resizing does not work. The same problem used to exist also in previous versions of Ubuntu if I turned visual effects on. Hence I think that the clue to the problem should not be sought for in a proprietary driver but in some other component.
