@Bryce, I was running up-to-date versions of everything when I initially posted. I just updated and commented-out the "shadow" option in my xorg.conf file as you suggest, restarted the X server and until now, no lockups. But.... the display glitches are back. See the attached screenshot. Should I file a new bug-report for the glitches?
