Well, it looks like I'm affected by the same bug. But my xrandr shows the state of monitor cables correctly. But the second monitor goes to the safemode on booting ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10. it affected kernel 2.6.32 and 2.6.34 in 10.04. and bare installing 10.10
