It'll probably take me some time to do all this, so you'll have to wait during 
the weekend...
In the meantime I see that there is another update on the upstream bug:

Would that be easier?  How would I do that?  Do I need to install a live
CD Hardy and install some debian package ... ?

What should I do first?
