My screen was similar to Thomas's, but as I said safe graphics solved it. Note: now I am back to ubuntu, in Intrepid it didn't work (I had to set the safe graphics thing as in hardy), but under Jaunty (Xubuntu 9.04) it works!!! and I am now waiting for Kubuntu to finish downloading (While using Xubuntu).
