Upstream has also suggested a patch to "use XAA in low memory situations or when the DRI is disabled". Unfortunately, it does apply cleanly to Jaunty source or I would have prepared a package for testing in my PPA. I tried adapting the patch to the Jaunty source, but it is beyond my skills. Can one of the xserver packagers please take a look?
