Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg
X freezes and the screen is filled with stripes when I insert any of a set of 4 pre-pressed cdrom of an on-line course edited by the UNDP (United Nations Development Program). However, I can access the cdrom from the console. Please note that *the first file is reported to be larger than the cdrom capacity:* $ sudo mount /dev/scd0 /cdrom $ ls -l /media/cdrom0 total 2048052 -r-xr-xr-x 1 root root 2097152000 2000-07-22 11:19 A1Express.eqx -r-xr-xr-x 1 root root 39 2007-02-21 18:08 autorun.inf -r-xr-xr-x 1 root root 1888 2007-01-31 22:41 css.css -r-xr-xr-x 1 root root 3284 2007-02-21 18:15 derechos_de_autor_cd2.htm dr-xr-xr-x 1 root root 2048 2008-02-28 17:58 images_cd2 -r-xr-xr-x 1 root root 2320 2008-02-28 17:59 index_cd2.htm dr-xr-xr-x 1 root root 2048 2007-09-06 22:12 javascript -r-xr-xr-x 1 root root 3816 2007-02-21 18:06 requerimientos_cd2.htm -r-xr-xr-x 1 root root 31744 2001-07-31 21:41 Runthis.exe dr-xr-xr-x 1 root root 2048 2007-09-06 22:14 Unidad_4A dr-xr-xr-x 1 root root 2048 2007-09-06 22:14 Unidad_4B As expected, I can read any file from the cd but "A1Express.eqx": $ cp /cdrom/A1Epress.eqx ./ -- dmesg -- [ 5153.430210] attempt to access beyond end of device [ 5153.430225] sr0: rw=0, want=911888, limit=911884 [ 5153.430232] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 227971 [ 5153.430312] attempt to access beyond end of device [ 5153.430317] sr0: rw=0, want=911892, limit=911884 [ 5153.430321] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 227972 I can't read read the whole device either: $ gzip < /dev/cdrom > cdrom.iso.gz -- dmesg -- [ 2807.501673] ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3 [ 2807.540452] ISOFS: changing to secondary root [ 2990.572526] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 795904 [ 2990.572609] __ratelimit: 118 callbacks suppressed [ 2990.572617] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 198976 [ 2990.572691] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 198977 [ 2990.572766] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 198978 [ 2990.572837] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 198979 [ 2990.572908] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 198980 [ 2990.572979] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 198981 [ 2990.573070] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 198982 [ 2990.573143] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 198983 [ 2990.573216] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 198984 [ 2990.573287] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 198985 [ 2990.580235] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 796160 Please let me know if i can provide more information.
